You may have seen that Clancy Lester, also known as The Bee Man, is heading to Tamworth! Before building bee hotels at Currawong Park, Clancy will be our guest speaker at Landcare Learning on March 17 at UNE centre, where he’ll explore Australia’s native bees, their relationship with flowering plants, and simple, practical actions we can all take to support biodiversity.

Walk & Talk At Currawong Park

Join us for a relaxed Walk and Talk at Currawong Park with Clancy Lester – The Bee Man – alongside members of Tamworth Birdwatchers Inc. Discover how native plants support birds, bees and other pollinators, learn about local and threatened bird species, and see how Currawong Park Landcare volunteers are enhancing local biodiversity.

There’ll be plenty of time to ask questions, share observations and take home useful resources.

North West Local Land Services invites you to join Dr Ernie Harbott for a practical, hands-on composting workshop designed to help you build healthier, more productive soils using simple and sustainable methods.

This interactive session will cover different composting systems, balancing materials for effective decomposition, managing moisture and temperature, troubleshooting common issues, and applying finished compost to support productive landscapes. With demonstrations, Q&A, and practical insights from Dr Harbott’s years of experience.

TRLA meet on the third Tuesday of every month from 5.15 pm. These meetings are either in person or online via zoom. Notification is sent to members and newsletter subscribers. If you would like to attend but are not a member please contact info@trla.org.au.

Friends of Moore Creek Cave Working Bee

3rd Saturday of every month from 8.30am, held at Moore Creek Caves Reserve (end of Maysteers Lane)

Activities which are undertaken at the MCCR working bee include:

  • Weeding
  • Tree planting
  • Tree maintenance
  • Native bee hive care
  • Seed collecting
  • Seed processing
  • Propagation & nursery days
  • Free local native plant giveaways
  • Social morning teas
  • Chat with experts on ecology, aboriginal culture of the reserve, bush foods and the environment

 The award-winning film Just A Farmer will be screening in Tamworth Community Event Centre Darling Street Tamworth at 2pm on Saturday 7th March 26. This powerful film captures the struggles and triumphs of rural life, with a deep focus on mental health awareness and community resilience.

Applications are now open for the Tamworth Regional Landcare Association Small Grants Program — a great opportunity to bring your local environmental or community project to life. Funding is available for practical, on-ground activities that support biodiversity, sustainability, and community engagement across our region. Get your ideas in before March 1 and let us help turn them into action!

Did you know (TRLA) run an Annual Small Grants program for Landcare activities connected to the Tamworth region.

Volunteer Landcare and Grassroots Community groups can apply up to $2,500 for activities that meet an objective of TRLA’s strategic plan with eight successful projects being awarded funds from across the region.
