Meet Clancy Lester – “The Bee Man” Coming to Tamworth

If you’ve heard the buzz about native bees lately, chances are you’ve come across Clancy Lester — affectionately known as “The Bee Man.” Clancy is an environmental educator and researcher, focusing on Australia’s incredible native bees!

Earlier in 2025 Penny Milson, Currawong Park Volunteer, spotted a feature about Clancy on the ABC and immediately thought, “We need to bring him to Tamworth!” and thankfully Clancy agreed. Thanks to the generous support of Local Land Services (LLS), we’re now able to host Clancy in Tamworth, with his visit also extending to Gunnedah for a Small Farms event.

Clancy’s work shines a light on:

• The critical role native bees play in pollination and food production
• The importance of planting local native species for biodiversity
• Practical, everyday actions households and landholders can take to support pollinators
• How protecting pollinators strengthens ecosystems and climate resilience

During our Walk and Talk at Currawong Park on March 18th, Clancy and members of Tamworth Birdwatchers Inc will also be sharing their knowledge of threatened bird species in our area.

Across our region, there’s growing interest in regenerative practices and awareness of the threats posed to fragile ecological communities.
