Land for Wildlife Assessments Now Available Through Tamworth Regional Landcare!

We are excited to announce that Tamworth Regional Landcare is now offering Land for Wildlife assessments, providing local landholders with the opportunity to learn more about the unique biodiversity on their properties and explore ways to protect and enhance the natural environment.

We have recently completed our first few Land for Wildlife assessments, and it has been fantastic to see the enthusiasm and interest from local landholders. The feedback has been incredibly positive, with participating landholders enjoying the opportunity to better understand the native plants, animals and ecosystems that call their properties home.

What is Land for Wildlife?

The Land for Wildlife program is a voluntary property registration scheme that recognises landholders who are actively managing or conserving native habitat on their property. The program supports landholders who want to protect biodiversity and create a healthier environment for native wildlife, whether they own a large rural property, a smaller acreage or manage a property with important patches of native vegetation.

Through a Land for Wildlife assessment, a trained assessor visits the property and works with the landholder to identify areas of environmental value. This may include remnant native vegetation, threatened ecological communities, waterways, wetlands, habitat trees, wildlife corridors and other important features that provide habitat for native species.

The assessment is also an opportunity to discuss the landholder’s goals and explore practical ways to improve and protect biodiversity. This could include activities such as weed management, revegetation, fencing off waterways, protecting old habitat trees, restoring native vegetation or improving wildlife habitat.

How Does It Work?

The process is voluntary and supportive, with the assessment designed to work alongside landholders and their individual property goals. The assessor will walk through the property with the landholder, discuss the environmental values present and identify opportunities for future conservation and land management.

Landholders who participate can gain a greater understanding of the biodiversity on their property and receive guidance on practical actions they can take to protect and enhance these values. Being part of Land for Wildlife is about recognising the important role private landholders play in conserving Australia’s natural environment and supporting them in their efforts.

Our first assessments have been a fantastic opportunity to connect with local landholders and celebrate the conservation work already taking place across our region. We are thrilled to see landholders embracing the program and taking an active role in protecting the native biodiversity of their properties.
