Community Pizza Cob Oven Building Day at the TRLA Nursery

On Sunday, 6 July, the Tamworth Regional Landcare Association (TRLA) Nursery was brought to life with a fantastic day of community, creativity and hands-on learning, as volunteers came together with the Tamworth Community Organic Gardeners to build a traditional pizza cob oven.

The event provided a wonderful opportunity for members of the community to come together, learn new skills and work collaboratively on a project that will provide lasting benefits for the TRLA Nursery and its volunteers. With plenty of enthusiasm and teamwork, participants got their hands dirty as they worked through the process of constructing the cob oven using natural and sustainable materials.

The day was not just about building an oven; it was about building connections. The event created a welcoming space for volunteers and community members to share knowledge, meet new people and strengthen relationships between local environmental and gardening groups. It was a great example of how community collaboration can turn an idea into something tangible that can be enjoyed for years to come.

Once completed, the pizza cob oven will provide a fantastic addition to the TRLA Nursery, creating opportunities for future volunteer gatherings, community events and social activities. It will be a place where people can come together, enjoy good food and celebrate the important work being undertaken by volunteers to support local landcare and environmental initiatives.

A huge thank you goes to the Tamworth Community Organic Gardeners for their support, knowledge and enthusiasm in helping make the pizza cob oven a reality. Their involvement helped make the day both educational and enjoyable, and we are incredibly grateful for the time and skills they shared with the TRLA community.

The Volunteers would also like to extend a special thank you to Tamworth Regional Landcare Association for making this project possible through the support of the TRLA Small Grants Initiative. Funding through the initiative allowed volunteers to bring this idea to life and create a valuable resource that will continue to benefit the nursery and the wider community into the future.

The day was a fantastic reminder of the power of community, collaboration and volunteering. From building the oven to sharing laughs and enjoying the day together, the event was a great success and showcased the positive outcomes that can be achieved when local groups work together.

We look forward to firing up the new pizza cob oven at future events and continuing to create opportunities for the community to connect, learn and enjoy the TRLA Nursery together.
