Local Gomeroi Artist Selected for Regional Landcare Artwork

We are pleased to announce that Tamworth-based Gomeroi artist Kristi Kirk has been selected through our recent Expression of Interest process to create a new artwork for North West Regional Landcarers.

The commission forms part of our Aboriginal Partnerships project and will create an artwork that reflects caring for Country, connection to land and water, community, and the importance of working together.

Kristi has lived in Tamworth for more than 30 years and has strong family and community connections across Gomeroi Country. Her artwork is deeply connected to culture, Country and storytelling, and her EOI included a wonderful collection of previous works showcasing her distinctive and vibrant style.

In describing what caring for Country means to her, Kristi spoke about respect, responsibility and staying connected to land, water and people, as well as listening to Country, learning from Elders and nurturing Country for future generations. She also highlighted that caring for Country is something we all share responsibility for.

Kristi brings strong connections with Aboriginal families and communities in the Tamworth area, having also worked with Tamworth Aboriginal Medical Service for almost 17 years. She describes art as an important way of connecting back to culture, Country, community and herself, and of sharing and creating stories.

Once completed, the new artwork will become an important part of how we share the story of Landcare and caring for Country across the North West, with elements of the artwork to be used across signage, printed resources and digital materials.
